2019 Annual Campaign Update

President’s Newsletter

Reach Out for Youth and Families is underway

Our campaign kicked off on March 15th with our annual Reach Out for Youth and Families Breakfast. This year’s fundraising goal is $850,000.

During the next two weeks we will be holding the community portion of our Annual Campaign, and I hope you will visit our branch displays and speak to our staff members to learn how your support makes meaningful impact in our community.

In 2018 the Hockomock Area YMCA provided $2,111,811 in confidential scholarships and program subsidies.

Gifts to the campaign provide confidential financial assistance & program subsidies to children & families in need. Our Y has a proud yet ever-growing history of inclusiveness. Whether it’s a family that cannot afford a Y camping experience for their children or a teenager who struggles with bullying at school, we continually extend our arms, welcoming them into our Y family.

Please watch highlights of the Breakfast click here and if you would like to get involved in the campaign, contact realimpact@hockymca.org or call 508-643-5287.

I wish to thank Mary Nickerson and Kerri Quintal for sharing their Y stories at our breakfast. Throughout our campaign we are humbled by the incredibly personal, heartfelt stories that describe the impact of this campaign. We are grateful to be part of 15 communities full of caring, committed people who share the values of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

You help make our Y a place where community comes together, and where people matter.

Sincerely,

Ed Hurley
President, Hockomock Area YMCA

Got Game? Is it Crafty? Join March Leagues Today (grade 1-6)

Changing the way basketball is taught

All of our sports directors are thrilled to share that we are bringing an awesome experience to our gyms. Starting the second weekend in March, the Y’s new partnership with Crafty 3×3 Basketball will mean exciting leagues that promise to develop skilled basketball players, with a focus on team basketball.

» Register Today

To help, here are some reasons to join:

What are the Highlights?

When kids play 3 on 3 basketball (vs traditional 5 on 5) they get more touches of the ball. They get more comfortable in all aspects of the game.

Crafty Basketball was developed by a pioneer in the sports technology space. Incentives to develop all aspects of the game are built into Crafty’s unique scoring system that translates to fast paced, fun games and high IQ basketball.

Training for athletes will include important topics like best ways to cut and screen to maximize scoring, how to score with and without the ball, 5 secrets to becoming a consistent and potent scorer at any level. Team Basketball.

We’re talking about how to develop smart players (the same ones who keep playing because of how much fun they are having!)

The things that often allow kids to win at young ages (height, speed, strength) won’t serve them in later years unless they also develop technique, tactics, and the ability to think for themselves, three things that often go out the window in win at all costs youth sports.

Limited Spots

Please follow the link below or call or stop by your local Y if you want to get involved. There are limited spots.

Grades 1-2 are coed

Grades 3-4 have girls and boys divisions

Grades 5-6 have girls and boys divisions

We’ll start with a four week league, running March 9-March 30 (Saturdays) in Foxboro and Franklin and running March 10-March 31 (Sundays) in North Attleboro. Free Trial Clinics will also run March 2-3. Limited space available and you must register ahead of time for the free clinics.
