Thank you for considering the YMCA as a place to donate your time and talents. Volunteers are vital to the YMCA. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to meet the needs of the kids, families, and adults who live in our community.
With your thoughtful generosity, more than 15,000 individuals, children, and families have been positively impacted by a Hockomock Area YMCA experience and a place to belong. The commitment you make to our YMCA through gifts of time, talent, and treasure transform lives.
In 2022, 634 policy and program volunteers have lent their time and talent to create a caring community at our Hockomock Y. These individuals have contributed a total of 3,924 volunteer hours at the Hockomock Area YMCA.
Each year, you and hundreds of dedicated volunteers give the most valuable gifts of all: You give your time, talent, and treasure. You come together with men, women, and children from your community who are committed to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility to make a difference at our Y.
Because of you, we are making a meaningful and enduring impact in the fifteen communities we are privileged to serve.
You make the difference — thank you for your commitment to our Y today and in the years to come!
“What I loved most about volunteering at the Y was seeing the campers working together, building trust, and forming friendships,” shares Dan. “To witness the teens’ growth and maturity develop over time at camp was really special. This Y is truly a community that I’ve never experienced before.”
–Dan, Camp Volunteer
You can help at the Y in a variety of roles supporting youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in our community. No matter how you devote your time, you’ll be working with other volunteers and Y professionals to make a difference in the lives of children and families.
Here are a few examples of the many ways you can make a difference in our community:
We rely on volunteers and community partners to make possible most Community Initiatives. You can help with programs like our Food Access Program (gathering and distributing meals for kids and bags of groceries for families and individuals in need), supporting cancer survivors through LIVESTRONG at the YMCA or assist with Summer Camp Clean Up Days or branch beautification projects. Together with other volunteers and our program directors, you will directly enrich the lives of children and families. Volunteers drive our work in a variety of ways, depending on their talents and the specific needs of the program initiative.
Our Y needs volunteers to help coach youth sports. You’ll volunteer with our Sports Director, helping kids learn how to play and enjoy sports. At the Y, playing sports is an opportunity for kids to develop self-confidence and sportsmanship. As a volunteer coach, you’ll have the opportunity to act as a role model for youth as you teach the fundamental skills of the sport.
The Y provides a nurturing and caring environment for children, and our Y needs volunteers to help in our child services areas. Under supervision by our Child Watch coordinator, volunteers help by creating a fun and safe environment for the children. You might read during story time, help children enjoy play time, and act as a role model in Child Watch.
We are proud of our volunteers who are the life-blood of our organization. Our Board of Advisors include our Board of Directors, Board of Incorporators and Board of Managers and are involved with the planning and advancing of the mission and vision of their YMCA. These advisors ensure that the funds are available in order for the Y to be able to achieve its strategic goals. Board volunteers bring credibility to the YMCA through their visibility in the community, their professional expertise and their passion for community building.
Help the Y raise funds to support our annual Reach Out Campaign. In this role you will help the membership campaign portion of the Annual Campaign, assuring the campaign meets its goals in recruiting volunteers and securing donations.
We will work with teens looking to provide meaningful community service hours within our YMCA as well as college students eager to intern with specific YMCA departments or programs to gain valuable experience and hands-on learning, with or without college credit requirements.
Are you ready to have some fun while making a difference? Be part of our team helping at our annual special events like our 5K family days, golf tournaments and much more. Volunteers assist with registration, water stations, event set up and break-down, handing out medals, cheering on our participants, and so much more!
