At the Y, students learn self-defense through martial arts classes that develop balance, coordination, self-confidence and discipline through practice of basic techniques and forms.
Our Y teaches Shotokan Karate and concentrates on building confidence, courage, patience, inner strength and physical fitness. At the youth level, basic forms are taught using methods such as kata training. The Intermediate and Advanced Karate classes require instructor permission.

Taekwondo has a rich history as a traditional martial art, and has now evolved into a modern Olympic Sport. Our Olympic taekwondo class focuses on the sport techniques, while still teaching the traditional values including integrity, self-control and perseverance.
