Get Ready for Spring Weigh to Change

Join the many folks who have participated in our Weigh to Change program and have succeeded in losing weight and inches, and are now living healthier, happier lives.

Our Weigh to Change (WTC) Program provides the support and guidance you need to succeed. Check out the WTC testimonials of John and Nancy Brennock, Christine Tolland, and Ben Ray:

NORTH ATTLEBORO BRANCH
WEIGH TO CHANGE SPOTLIGHT

“My wife Nancy and I have tried to lose weight repeatedly,” says John Brennock. “She asked me to join Weigh to Change with her. Reluctantly I said I’d join for her. She replied, “do it for yourself or not at all.” Day one I asked, “I love sweets, carbs, beer, wine, single malt scotch, and don’t eat vegetables. Can you help?” Surprisingly the nutritionist said yes! Without giving up things I love, and despite normal aging, we were more successful than we ever dreamed.”

FOXBORO BRANCH
WEIGH TO CHANGE SPOTLIGHT

“In April 2016 I participated in the first Weigh to Change and lost 14 pounds. I lost another 18, equaling 32 total” explains Christine Tolland. “What I gained from WTC was beyond my expectations. Not only did I learn how to eat clean, WTC helped me peel back the layers revealing the real me. I have gained a network of people that support me, 3 years after the program! I am stronger, more condident, and determined in all aspects of my life.”

FRANKLIN BRANCH
WEIGH TO CHANGE SPOTLIGHT

“I began Weigh to Change overweight at 330 pounds,” says Ben Ray. “Within 10 weeks, I lost 35 pounds and the weight is still dropping. At the same time, I’ve gained muscle and an increase in strength and energy.

Weight to Change is about embracing a lifestyle change. Unlike other programs I’ve been on, there’s no point counting or avoiding carbs. It’s about being mindful of your food choices and balancing your diet with the right combination of fat, protein and carbs. The nutritionist taught me how to make changes to my eating habits so that I don’t feel I’m on a diet and I’m never hungry.

The group and individual workouts are also outstanding. The trainers push hard but also do a great job modifying workouts to accommodate everyone’s fitness level. So whether you’re fit, out of shape or suffer from injuries, the workouts work for everyone.

The thing that surprised me the most was the comradery within the group. People in the group were all very friendly. They encouraged each other throughout the workouts and also shared food tips. Everyone worked together because we were all striving for the common goal of making positive changes in our lives.”

Join our Weigh to Change program today and achieve your own personal weight and inch loss goals.

Registration is now open for the Spring program.
The 10-week program will run April 8th – June 15th.

The Weigh to Change program offers support and education in both areas of fitness and nutrition. By combining physical training and better nutrition, participants will benefit in the most successful way to achieve weight loss. Participants will be challenged throughout the ten weeks with personal training, nutrition guidance, group workouts, and friendly challenge competitions.

Join us for a free introduction to Weigh to Change. At the introduction, you will choose either:
a 1-on-1 session with our nutrtionist OR a 20-minute workout with 10-minute healthy post-workout snack, and 15-minute quick info session:

Got Game? Is it Crafty? Join March Leagues Today (grade 1-6)

Changing the way basketball is taught

All of our sports directors are thrilled to share that we are bringing an awesome experience to our gyms. Starting the second weekend in March, the Y’s new partnership with Crafty 3×3 Basketball will mean exciting leagues that promise to develop skilled basketball players, with a focus on team basketball.

» Register Today

To help, here are some reasons to join:

What are the Highlights?

When kids play 3 on 3 basketball (vs traditional 5 on 5) they get more touches of the ball. They get more comfortable in all aspects of the game.

Crafty Basketball was developed by a pioneer in the sports technology space. Incentives to develop all aspects of the game are built into Crafty’s unique scoring system that translates to fast paced, fun games and high IQ basketball.

Training for athletes will include important topics like best ways to cut and screen to maximize scoring, how to score with and without the ball, 5 secrets to becoming a consistent and potent scorer at any level. Team Basketball.

We’re talking about how to develop smart players (the same ones who keep playing because of how much fun they are having!)

The things that often allow kids to win at young ages (height, speed, strength) won’t serve them in later years unless they also develop technique, tactics, and the ability to think for themselves, three things that often go out the window in win at all costs youth sports.

Limited Spots

Please follow the link below or call or stop by your local Y if you want to get involved. There are limited spots.

Grades 1-2 are coed

Grades 3-4 have girls and boys divisions

Grades 5-6 have girls and boys divisions

We’ll start with a four week league, running March 9-March 30 (Saturdays) in Foxboro and Franklin and running March 10-March 31 (Sundays) in North Attleboro. Free Trial Clinics will also run March 2-3. Limited space available and you must register ahead of time for the free clinics.

YMCA UPDATE

A Message from President Ed Hurley
PATRIOTS COACH BRIAN FLORES HONORED AT OUR LEGENDS BALL

We nurture and embrace a culture of acceptance at our YMCA.

This commitment was on display on November 6th when we hosted our 13th Annual Legends Ball. This signature event raises funds for our Integration Initiative, a program dedicated to providing inclusive opportunities for children, teens and adults with special needs and their families.

We are grateful for the support of all of our sports legends who annually support this life-changing program, and all of our sponsors and guests who enhanced lives through their participation in our Impact a Life Appeal, silent, and live auctions.

We were proud to honor New England Patriots Coach Brian Flores with our 2018 Legends Award for his commitment to inclusion, our Y and his community. The Flores Family story, as told by Brian, is compelling and motivational. His recognition of our Y as an integral part of his family made everyone in attendance proud to be part of something so special.

Past Legends Honorees and New England Patriots greats Rob Ninkovich (2016), Devin McCourty (2015), and Matthew Slater (2017) were thrilled to present the award to their coach, their mentor and their friend. Click here to watch their presentation.

As always, the highlight of the evening is seeing the young people of our Integration Initiative escort our Legends into the ballroom to start the evening. The smiles on their faces brighten the room as they connect once again with sports legends they have come to know over the years. Click here to enjoy some of the best photographs from this year’s Legends Ball.

Every year our Legends Ball is the perfect reminder that the Holiday Season that follows is one that centers on giving thanks and the blessings of time spent with family.

Thank you for all you do for our YMCA and on behalf of all of us at the Y and all the families of our Integration Initiative, enjoy a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with joy, happiness and the continued embrace of inclusion.

Sincerely,

Ed Hurley
President, Hockomock Area YMCA
