Join Spring Classes – Starting Feb. 25

Meet Me at the Y. Where Confidence Grows!

Learn about all the options your Y offers to keep kids active this Spring, as our new session of classes gets underway the week of February 25.

Register Today!

I can swim the whole way across the pool! — Hearing those excited words is about as rewarding as it gets. The kids don’t know that they’ve also learned to be safe in the water, to follow instructions, to develop new skills, to gain confidence and to make friends. But we do.

From gymnastics and fitness, enrichment or specialty sports clinics, to programs preparing kids for safe summer swimming and spring dance recitals, it’s easy to find great youth development options at the Y!

Session runs: Feb. 25 – April 14, 2019
Don’t miss these top picks for Spring 1:

SWIM LESSONS: Our Youth Program Guide provides a schedule for the classes, but here’s a quick overview:

  • SWIM STARTERS: Baby & Toddler Lessons with Parent.
Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills.
Swim Starters classes are Stages A, B, C Register
  • SWIM BASICS: Fundamentals of Swimming
Students develop basic swimming competency and learn personal water safety. They begin by developing comfort in the water, then work on proper body position and control. While developing fundamental techniques, swimmers increase stamina for longer distance swimming.
Swim Basics classes are Stages 1, 2, 3 Register
  • SWIM STROKES: Refining Stroke Technique
Swimmers build on stroke technique, including all major competitive strokes. The emphasis on water safety continues, and swimmers learn about competitive swimming.
Swim Strokes classes are Stages 4, 5, 6 Register

You are invited! On Sunday Feb. 25, which is the day before Spring 1 starts, the Foxboro Y is holding an AQUATICS OPEN HOUSE • FREE COMMUNITY EVENT. This will be a great place to enjoy family swim, while also having the guidance of Director Rob Houston and his staff to evaluate swimmers and make swim class recommendations or answer any questions. YMCA UPDATE

A Message from President Ed Hurley
PATRIOTS COACH BRIAN FLORES HONORED AT OUR LEGENDS BALL

We nurture and embrace a culture of acceptance at our YMCA.

This commitment was on display on November 6th when we hosted our 13th Annual Legends Ball. This signature event raises funds for our Integration Initiative, a program dedicated to providing inclusive opportunities for children, teens and adults with special needs and their families.

We are grateful for the support of all of our sports legends who annually support this life-changing program, and all of our sponsors and guests who enhanced lives through their participation in our Impact a Life Appeal, silent, and live auctions.

We were proud to honor New England Patriots Coach Brian Flores with our 2018 Legends Award for his commitment to inclusion, our Y and his community. The Flores Family story, as told by Brian, is compelling and motivational. His recognition of our Y as an integral part of his family made everyone in attendance proud to be part of something so special.

Past Legends Honorees and New England Patriots greats Rob Ninkovich (2016), Devin McCourty (2015), and Matthew Slater (2017) were thrilled to present the award to their coach, their mentor and their friend. Click here to watch their presentation.

As always, the highlight of the evening is seeing the young people of our Integration Initiative escort our Legends into the ballroom to start the evening. The smiles on their faces brighten the room as they connect once again with sports legends they have come to know over the years. Click here to enjoy some of the best photographs from this year’s Legends Ball.

Every year our Legends Ball is the perfect reminder that the Holiday Season that follows is one that centers on giving thanks and the blessings of time spent with family.

Thank you for all you do for our YMCA and on behalf of all of us at the Y and all the families of our Integration Initiative, enjoy a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with joy, happiness and the continued embrace of inclusion.

Sincerely,

Ed Hurley
President, Hockomock Area YMCA

Got the Theatre Bug?

Youth Theatre Kicks Off the 2018-2019 Season

Come see a show!

We are excited to begin the 2018-2019 season with a fun stage production starring our Y’s Broad-Y actors between the ages of 7-10.

‘The Three Little Pigs’ Performs:

Saturday, OCT 20 7:00 – 8:30pm
Sunday, OCT 21 1:00 – 2:30pm
Mansfield Arts YMCA (40 Balcom St, Mansfield)
Tickets at the Door: $6 (students), $8 (adults)

The plot:
Three classic fairy tales (Three Little Pigs, Billy Goats Gruff, and Goldilocks) begin in their usual “once upon a time” fashion; however, this time things change on the way to “happily ever after” as our protagonists wonder what life would be like if they could change their story. Assisted by The Voice (struggling to narrate the changing stories) and three stagehands (desperately trying to juggle sets to keep the stories straight), the three trios join forces to rid themselves of their respective villains!

Our next performance, put up by Broad-Y Academy actors aged 11-14, is not to be missed.

‘Game of Tiaras’ Performs:

Saturday, NOV 3 7:00 – 9:00pm
Sunday, NOV 4 1:00 – 3:00pm
Jordan/Jackson Elementary School (255 East St, Mansfield)
Tickets at the Door: $10 (adults), $7 (children under 14; show is best suited for age 10+)

The plot:
When the aging king of a Magical Kingdom (England) decides to split his empire between his three daughters, Cinderella, Belle, and the Snow Queen (who in no way resembles a copyrighted character…), terrible tragedy ensues. Terrible, hilarious tragedy. Combining the gut-wrenching plot twists of Game of Thrones and the soul- numbing despair of Shakespearean tragedy, this play will leave you dying with laughter as the body count mounts. When you play the Game of Tiaras, you win, or you die.

The Hockomock Y Theatre Institute (high school aged) students will also be putting their skills to use in a show stopping musical theatre cabaret—featuring numbers from shows like A Chorus Line, Dear Evan Hansen, Chicago, and more!

‘Show Stopping’ Showcase:

Friday, NOV 30 7:00 – 9:00pm
North Attleborough High School (1 Wilson West Whitty Way)
Tickets at the Door: $10 (adults), $7 (students)

We believe that self-confidence and self-expression grows in students who participate in the performing arts. Please visit Mansfield Arts & Education website to learn more.
