There’s a summer camp for every kid.

The Y has more than 130 years of experience in providing a safe, thriving environment for young people to explore personal interests, build self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills, discover the creativity and health benefits of the outdoors, and make lasting friendships and memories. If your child is a budding actor or athlete, a gymnast or outdoor adventurer, there’s a Y camp they will love. We offer part-day and full-day camps for all ages, including preschoolers and teens.

Reach Out for Youth and Families Breakfast 2017

We recently held our annual Breakfast at Gillette Stadium to kick off our 2017 Reach Out For Youth and Families Campaign. All of our Y’s programs and services are available to everyone in the community regardless of their ability to pay. The incredible support we receive from our friends and neighbors through this campaign makes our mission possible.

Last year our Y awarded $2.1 million in confidential scholarships and program subsidies. Please watch our video sharing highlights of the event, a shining example of community coming together to support each other.

Thank you for your support of our YMCA.

Sincerely,

Ed Hurley

5 Days of Action: Protect their only childhood

In recognition of April as Child Sexual Abuse Prevention month, the Hockomock Area YMCA will be joining other Y’s across Massachusetts and the nation in promoting “Five Days of Action Initiative” from April 24-28, 2017.

This month and throughout the year, we encourage all individuals and organizations to play a role in making our local communities a better place for children and families. Together we can prevent child sexual abuse by ensuring that adults have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly.

1 in 10 children experiences the trauma of child sexual abuse before age 18, typically at the hand of someone they know and trust. As adults we are responsible for protecting children and educating ourselves to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The Hockomock Area YMCA partners with Darkness to Light to provide child abuse prevention training to adults that strengthens our community and kips our kids safe.

During the week of April 24th, we will share information and resources with our members and the community on how to keep our children safe.

Information will be shared through a variety of methods such as email blasts, social media, and within our facilities. Please consider supporting the movement of child sexual abuse prevention by sharing the information with family and friends and participating in our daily calls to action.

During the week in our branches:

We will ask members, staff, and volunteers to sign a pledge to protect children. We will display these signed pledges throughout our branches during the week to promote and emphasis the importance of community based prevention.

Plant a pinwheel today! Did you know that the pinwheel is a symbol of a carefree, happy childhood? Every child deserves that kind of childhood. When you visit any of our branches, take a pinwheel and plant it in your yard. Pinwheel planting is designed to inspire all of us to take action in support of children and families during Child Abuse Prevention month.

Take the Darkness to Light Online Training. 5% of a community trained in Child Protection to be aware and responsive is the tipping point to make a positive change*. (Statistic from Darkness to Light)

We will provide resources to help educate, spread awareness, and prevent child sexual abuse. With proper policies, procedures, and protocols, we can all minimize the risk and deny an offender the access to harm children. Here are links to some of those resources:

Spring Classes

MEET ME AT THE Y.
OUR SPRING PLANS ARE BRILLIANT.

Spring 2 programs are open for enrollment.

session runs: April 24 – June 18

REGISTER FOR SPRING 2 CLASSES

Check out these Suggested Programs:

Swim Lessons

Classes arrange swimmers broadly into age groups and then by skill level as kids progress through the instruction program. Our progressive-swim instruction method uses a problem-solving, guided-discovery teaching approach in a positive, caring environment. Especially for kids, swimming is fun and challenging – and sometimes competitive. At the Y, swim lessons are part of our broader focus on Youth Development. Unsure which class to choose, consult our Swim Level Placement Guide or give us a call.

STEM Classes

We are passionate about working with kids to develop their potential as they discover the world around them. There’s nothing like rolling up your sleeves and completing a project that helps you realize all that you can acheive.

Dance Classes

Cultivate an appreciation for artistry while building coordination and confidence in your child. Many classes include the opportunity to get on stage in costume and perform at our spring recitals. Classes listed as Recital Session on pages 35-39 of our spring guide run through recitals and end the week of June 12.

Sports Leagues

Teams are forming now! Join our youth sports leagues for skill development and a focus on sportsmanship through the Y’s core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility. New discounted pricing for members! Our spring sports leagues start the weekend of April 8 and run through May 28.

Enrichment

At the Y, we offer a sense of community, fellowship and support that enriches people’s lives. You’re as likely to find a theatre class as an aerobic class at your Y, and book clubs, painting classes, mommy and me first play classes, cooking classes and teen programs have become as popular as anything in the gym.
