A program that promotes job readiness by introducing teens to the details of work life, such as the interview process, fundamental workplace skills and career development.
The Y’s Summer Teen Corps is a 7-week volunteer job readiness training program for teens. Designed to build solid workplace skills, teens will volunteer in one of the YMCA program areas and work side-by-side with staff in a program department (example: Member Services, Aquatics, Sports, Health & Wellness, ChildWatch, etc.) Teens will receive the benefit of having survived a mock interview and gain insight from having taken classes such as: Customer Service 101, Landing the Job, Professionalism, and Working with Children. Help others while helping yourself.
While this program is not offered this summer, we do offer a variety of teen leadership development and job readiness programs through our robust camp programming.
Our Leaders in Training (LIT) program is offered for grades 7 & 8 to learn positive values and leadership traits through service learning, team building, and adventure programming alongside their peers. CPR and First Aid included. LITs will plan fun events for younger campers. Each session is 3 weeks, and registration limited to 1 session per participant.
For more information, visit our LIT program online.
The Counselors in Training (CIT) program is for teens interested in working in a fun camp setting. CITs participate in courses teaching camp traditions in exciting ways and develop leadership skills to become a future YMCA camp counselor.
