Combining two key initiatives: the Integration Initiative and Healthy Futures, the creative new program highlights health promotion activities are as relevant for people with disabilities as for those without disabilities.

We were proud to host Child Protection Activist Elizabeth Smart on  May 8, 2014. “There is so much all of us can do. One person can make a huge difference. All of us should raise our voices so loud and not stop until there is change,” says Elizabeth on the topic of child abuse prevention. Thanks to all in our community who attended. Elizabeth inspired us with her courageous message to remain hopeful in times of crisis and protect & empower children.

This day, celebrated by 1,600 YMCAs this year, brought together the community and encouraged healthier behaviors through exercise and nutrition. Held at Patriot Place in Foxboro, our event was supported by dozens of community partners. It was a great way to kick off summer!

Our supportive small group physically activity programs through our Prescriptions for a Healthy Lifestyle are making a positive difference in the lives of individuals diagnosed with or at risk for a chronic disease. Along with ten other YMCAs across the U.S., the Hockomock Area YMCA was chosen to offer a Diabetes Prevention Program. This new and exciting program is an attempt to meet the needs of children and families by reducing the burden of chronic disease in communities across the country.
